Mort Zuckerman of US News & World Report has an informative editorial on the emergence of a tyrannical state in Venezuela under Col. Chavez. Zuckerman reveals that Chavez is accumulating substantial amounts of power in Venezueala by destroying the independent media by revoking charters and licenses, packing the courts, purging the military of critics, rewriting the Constitution. What's even worse is what Zuckerman revealed about Chavez's relationship with Cuba. Take a look:
"According to Miami's El Nuevo Herald, Chavez has granted Cuban judicial and security forces extensive police powers within Venezuela. Cubans are already running the intelligence services and indoctrinating and training the military. They will effectively bypass what is left of Venezuela's judicial system when they exercise new powers to investigate, seize, detain, and interrogate Venezuelan and Cubans living in Venezuela, with the right to extradite them to Cuba and try them there. This threatens the safety of some 30,000 Cubans in Venezuela."Such a relationship should set off several alarms within NSC, State and the DOD. Since Chavez has an enormous flow of petro-dollars and is friendly with Castro, Iran and various narco-terrorists, the situation could become hot real quick and might need an closer look by the US. If I know this White House then there's someone watching and keeps the President advised of the situation.
