Awesome!!! The D.C. Court of Appeals strikes down the US Governments $280 billion lawsuit against the tobacco industry in a 2 to 1 decision. Read Here. According to D.C. Appeals Court Senior Judge Stephen Williams in his concurring opinion, "The plain fact is that wealth deprivation is an extremely crude device for 'prevent[ing]' criminal behavior." Therefore the only recourse for the government is non financial and or an appeal to Supreme Court. While the government is more than likely going to appeal the decsion, it's still a win against the lawyers and one for the workers of the tobacco industry.
