A Man above this.

Fire of Liberty

And they say that Republicans are the cruel party. Maybe the folks in Maryland are above the childish tactics the Democrats are throwing up in the face of Lt. Governor Steele as he seeks a seat in the US Senate in 2006. It rather interesting that whenever someone is black and runs as a Republican they are dubbed an "Uncle Tom" or a "Sell-Out." Just look at what the Dems are saying in Maryland about Steele:
State Sen. Lisa A. Gladden, a black Baltimore Democrat, said she does not expect her party to pull any punches, including racial jabs at Mr. Steele, in the race to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes.

"Party trumps race, especially on the national level," she said. "If you are bold enough to run, you have to take whatever the voters are going to give you. It's democracy, perhaps at its worse, but it is democracy."

Delegate Salima Siler Marriott, a black Baltimore Democrat, said Mr. Steele invites comparisons to a slave who loves his cruel master or a cookie that is black on the outside and white inside because his conservative political philosophy is, in her view, anti-black.
I guess his opponents forget that a Republican by the name of Lincoln freed the slaves, Frederick Douglas and Booker T. Washington were Republicans, and also it was the Republican in the US Senate pushed through the Civil Rights legislation in the US in the 1960's while the Dems filibustered. You'd think the Democrats would be happy for his success but I guess you have to pull such tactics when you know you're on the losing end of the marathon. Luckily, an impeccable individual like Steele will rise above these petty insults and will win in a landslide based on his leadership skills and ideas. He did it in style in 2002 and I predict the same results come 2006.
