Consequences from Port Breakthrough

Fire of Liberty

As I noted in an earlier post, I was a little concerned that DPW ceding to the populist whims and thus opening the door for future protectionist legislation, well it seems that their might be an even larger problem with such a turn around which is presenting a image of weakness within the White House. According to this story in today's Financial Times, it seems that the owners of DPW(Who happen to be the leaders in the Emirate of Dubai) chose to offer this divestiture or outright sale to another entity because they feel that President Bush has lost control of his party and command of the agenda due to his inability to get the deal through. Now I hope that this is mere speculation on the part of the Financial Times but if there is a growing consensus within the UAE and other US allies within parts of the Middle East, it could cause deep disruptions in our efforts to push forward or get our allies to push forward in our War on Terror in the region. I just hope that things haven't gotten this bad yet. We'll see.
