Crunchy Con Americana

Fire of Liberty
Crunchy

If you want to learn a little more about the families that of today who have three or more children(The one's mentioned in Longman's piece) then I suggest you check out Rod Dreher's new book Crunchy Cons which is a book that points out that there's is indeed a subsection of America who are socially conservative but also have a nack for organic food and see the harmful affects that an overly excessive love for consumerism can have on a nation as a whole.(He's not advocating some socialist utopia but is just concerned that the folks who think about money all the time and want all the new toys generally hurt their relationship with friends and family). All in all Dreher shows that there is an movement amongst the American populous that wants to get closer to their family, community, and religion or what the late Russell Kirk(Great conservative mind) called the "first principles," . Now from what I've read so far, I can say that I generally agree with most of Dreher's ideas but I' m still a little wary about some of his ideas on economics, technology and food. I guess that's why conservatives like me and the folks in the conservative movement as a whole aren't in such a narrow mind-set like liberals and the MSM seem to portray us as. I'd say that we're much like a large family with its many quirky relatives but deep down inside we still believe in some basic things that making us conservative. While others might beg to differ with me about Dreher's Crunchy Cons, I see this as a good contribution to the conservative movement and suggest you go out and get a copy and discover for yourself.

For more on Crunchy Cons go to the Crunchy Con blog. Pretty good.
