While the MSM keeps on pointing out that a large grouping of Indians(I'm betting some of these folks are from Europe or other places) have been protesting President Bush's first visit to the land of Ghandi and the world's largest Democracy (Out of a population of about 2 billion this shouldn't constitute a news story but you know that the MSM keeps on punching), they fail to point out that the folks of India are pretty supportive of the US and President Bush. Just look what the Times of India is reporting about the President as he embarks on his six day tour of Southern Asia:
The 2005 Pew Global Attitudes survey found that 71 per cent of Indians have a favourable view of the United States and 54 per cent admire President Bush in handling world affairs. Now it's true that the folks of Afghanistan are grateful of our gift of freedom and Pakistan's government are good friends with the US when it comes to the Global War on Terror but I think that a better option is to develop a great relationship with a country like India, who shares a common language, laws, political systems(liberal democracy), not to mention the fact that they have the military know-how, man-power and technology to take on the terrorists and threats within the region. So I for one wish that President Bush has a good trip to India in an effort to weld a stronger bond between our nation and the hulking democracy of India. The more friends we have in the region the better.
What mostly attracts Indians is that America remains a land of opportunity despite its booming economy today. Asked where they would recommend that a young person move in order to lead a good life, a 38 per cent plurality of Indians choose the United States.
This finding may seem a weak endorsement, given America's longstanding image as a hopeful new world for immigrants; however, in no other country does even a plurality recommend the US to the hypothetical young person searching for a better life.
In other countries, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and Germany are all more popular choices. After India, Poland has the second largest share of respondents recommending the United States as a destination.
