Venezuela

Fire of Liberty

It seem Col. Chavez is expanding his ruthless regime's power in Venezuela and the general region. Based on this article in The Financial Times, Chavez has an enormous penchent for fighter aircraft and weapons. Aside from the fact that Chavez is in negotiations with Russia for the purchase of 50 Mig-29 SMT's, 40 helicopters and 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles he is also in talks with Brazil to purchase some dozen Super Tucano light attack jets. One could argue that this is for self-defense but one problem, Venezuela has no threats at hand. I'd be more concerned about Chavez because of his cozy relationship with Castro and his past comments not to mention his support for known terrorists. Another concern is the little known fact that some 30,000 Cuban "Doctors" are in the nation and within Caracas. We'll see.
