Fire of Liberty
I'd like to pay my respects to George F. Kennan, Diplomat & Historian, for his dedication to this nation's safety. During the Cold War, this nation would follow Kennan's Realist foreign policy of "containment," in dealing with the Soviets. As a student in Political Science/International Relations, one becomes quite aware of a realist foreign policy and Mr. Kennan's famous essay "The Sources of Soviet Conduct," which appeared in the July 1947 issue of Foreign Affairs. Kennan's work would also have influence on the Marshall Plan and the writing of NSC 68 which expanded the US Defense budget as well as the US scope of deterring or defeating the Soviets. While Kennan would soften later in life when he argued for a more accommodative policy with the Soviets, he still help to establish one of the most important foreign policies in American history.
