Fire of Liberty
Paul Jackson of The Calgary Sun has written a wonderful column on Pope John Paul II and his legacy of bringing the Catholic Church and Jews closer together. Jackson notes that JPII would forge these closer ties with the Jewish faith via his life-long friendship with his Jewish friend Jerry Kluger. Through this long friendship, JPII with the help of Kluger was able to eventually to push the recognition of Israel by the Vatican and to finally publicly embrace Judaism as the ancestor and co-religious partner of Christianity. Jackson's account of this extensive friendship between JPII and Kluger also has been memorialized in a terrific book called The Hidden Pope, by Darcy O'Brien. This great book yet again demonstrates the great legacy of the Holy Father and his impact on the World.
