The Cedar Revolution

Fire of Liberty
Lebflag

Take that Hezbollah and Assad. While Lahoud, Syria and the MSM had written off the Cedar Revolution by Thursday of last week after the enormous showing of Hezbollah and its pro-Syrian minions, the freedom and democracy loving anti-Syrian crowd have given them a what for. Based this report in the International Herald Tribune, the anti-Syrian Cedar Revolutionaries amassed some 800,000 revilers in Freedom's Square today on the one month anniversary of the assassination of Rafik Hariri. Throughout the streets of Beirut you can hear the crowd cheering "Truth, Freedom, National Unity," "Syria Out," as well as "We want only the Lebanese army in Lebanon." One can truly see the power that free people can generate under their own free will. While Hezbollah can coerce and threaten their people to show up in the streets, the Cedar Revolution don't have to use force but they just show up.

What makes it more interesting is the risk these people take by rallying against Syria. One should be concerned about their safety especially after reading about a warning that President Lahoud issued recently. According to this article in The Daily Star in Lebanon, President Lahoud noted that these protests could lead to greater strife and danger. Even worse is the fact he added this: "If they want to continue demonstrating, a little firecracker will lead to catastrophe." Lord on knows if the President is intending to use his allies in the Syrian intelligence or Hezbollah to set off these fireworks. As long as he people of Lebanon show up like this, Lahoud and his Syrian masters won't even think of resorting to such crass behavior. We'll see though. Based on recent events, the lovers of freedom prevail eventually. Keep up the Cedar Revolution.
