Pro-Syria Demonstration

Fire of Liberty

While watching Fox & Friends this morning, I discovered the true nature of the pro-Syrian demonstrators in Damascus. In her report this morning, Jennifer Griffin focused on a small grouping of some 100 human rights activists who we're denouncing the Assad regime. During this time Griffin, her Cameraman as well as the human rights group were swarmed by a violent mass of pro-Syrian supporters who started hurling fists, rocks and kicks. They were eventually pushed down an alley up against a doorway were they escaped from the angry mob. Based on the report, the mob attacked the human right activists and accused them of being traitors to President Assad and the nation of Syria.

It's really amazing how much violence and hatred that emanates from the supporters of Assad. While this small group of human rights activist were presenting their disapproval of Assad via a peaceful but vocal rally in a side-street, the pro-Syria crowd decided to physically assault them in front of a Fox News cameraman and correspondent. I guess when the rally is coordinated and run by the Syrian government and its security service the Mukabarat, you'll get the ruffians who will hurt someone just to please an evil dictator. I'd prefer the grass-roots gathering of the 100 human rights activists or The Cedar Revolution to the thugs of Hezbollah or the ones marching for Assad.

If you can, try to catch the video on Fox News it's a good demonstration of the hate and violence that supporters of Assad are capable of. One thing that's true about these demonstrations is the fear amongst the Assads and the Ba'athist of freedom and democracy emerging in Syria. As with all dictatorships, Assad's regime has to generate a "Potemkin village" of support to the outside World to say, "Look they really love me, see how many people fill the streets for me." Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Saddam and countless others have played this same broken record over and over again and have been able to pull the wool over the eyes of the World. Just remember that as long as the mass marches continue to occur in the streets of Damascus and Beirut for Assad, they're not real but a ruse for the fearful Assad. My advice for the people of Lebanon is to keep up The Cedar Revolution.
