Freedom's Square

Fire of Liberty
FS1

The Financial Times has a good article on the students and democracy advocates in Beirut's Freedom Square. Amongst the many groups in the crowd is Michael Nakfour, who has helped organize the crowd through his organization Independence 05 - Civil Society. Through the aide of Nakfour and some fifty others, the inhabitants in the tent city are well fed, informed through the distribution of info sheets. Nakfour has also distributed a massive quantity of Lebanese flags to the participants of the daily demonstrations. In the same manner that the Ukrainian people focused on the color orange in their support of Victor Yushchenko, the people in Lebanon have presented an united stand under a sea of red, white and the wonderful green cedar trees of Lebanon ala The Cedar Revolution. As with all winning campaigns, the people need organization and individuals who believe in what they're doing as well. Rest assured, the people in Freedom's Square are truly blessed with Nakfour and the people of Independence 05 - Civil Society, who seem to present the gathering and their actions as a well organized pageant. You can truly see this in his comments to The Financial Times:
"We are aware the toppling of the government was the easiest target," he says. "But people now see that protests have achieved something and this will sustain the movement." The symbol of Martyrs' Square, he adds, will be contagious in the Middle East. "Sooner or later, it will happen in Syria itself," he says.
With the support of Nakfour and the various others in Freedom Square, Lebanon's freedom from Syria's mighty fist is achievable. As long as the US and the rest of the World continue to press their demands for freedom and democracy, the efforts in Freedom's Square will be achievable. Just keep it up. Freedom is on the march.
