Syria

Fire of Liberty

It seems Bashir Assad is backing himself further in a corner on the Syrian troop withdrawal from Lebanon. Along with the call from France and the United States for an immediate withdrawal, the Assad regime is receiving the same demands from Russia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Even with this, Assad is playing a typical dictator game by saying he might withdrawal his 15,000 troops "maybe in the next few months." The man has some nerve to suggest such absurdities. While he might think that he is taking the heat off himself by signaling this softer position he is sadly mistaken. Unlike the old days, the US and fellow nations will not sit idly by and allow the wily dictator slip away through some bogus double-talk, he will have to follow through with a withdrawal. He also has to face the growing Cedar Revolution in Lebanon who have vowed to stay in Martyr's Square until the Syrians get out. When people power starts up something like this, woe is the target. Assad can't escape the people's demand of freedom.

My best advice to Assad is to get Syria out of Lebanon. As for the Lebanese people, keep up the Cedar Revolution.
