Silent Majority Lives On

Fire of Liberty

Peggy Noonan offers us something to ponder over this August as we see the the various MSM newspapers and telecasts harping ad nauseam about President Bush's slipping polls numbers, mothers protesting outside of the Western White House and various aspects of the President Bush's "Month Long Vacation." In her wonderful hand, Noonan points out that even though the numbers are weak, the President seems to continue to appeal to his base thus proving that Nixon's once noted "silent majority" is still in tact. At the current state this "silent majority" is coming together via President Bush's and even though there might be varying arguments within the party over issues of immigration, runaway spending, foreign policy, limited government and other policy issues it just shows a healthy party full of ideas.

The GOP might not have an odds on favorite to succeed President Bush but at least it seems to at least have a better grasp on a message and direction rather than, "We need a plan," that DNC Chairman Howard Dean noted in a recent gathering. So I say, let the press go crazy over these stories foretelling a "Summer of Discontent" for President Bush, they might need to venture into the US hinterland and get a real pulse of the base and realize things are better than they thought. So enjoy your well earned working vacation Mr. President, you deserve it.
