Slovakia & Flat Tax
Here's a good article on the Flat Tax phenomenon spreading throughout Eastern Europe. I don't know about having a Flat Tax mixed with a VAT tax, Slovakia would see more tax receipts if they dropped the VAT and stayed with a straight 19% rate. When you have lower taxes, people make more money to thus providing the government more money. As Art Laffer always says, Lower Taxes=More Revenue. If the Germans would adopt a Flat Tax instead of their 40-49% rate and its costly regulation, they wouldn't have an unemployment rate of some 12 to 12.5%. When will the Western Europeans ever learn anything from the East and people like Steve Forbes. I guess when all of the companies and people stop coming to Germany because they've found a better deal in Eastern Europe.
