Fire of Liberty
It seems that Senator Dodd and his colleagues from Connecticut in the US House of representatives are somewhat miffed that the Pentagon decided to sign a deal with Lockheed Martin and its partner AugustaWestland (England) instead of the Connecticut based Sikorsky which has built Marine One since its inception. In order to punish the Pentagon for this decision, Senator Dodd has added some legislation onto a State Department spending bill that calls for the London based Augusta Wetland to forgo any deals with Iran or other sponsors of terrorism for some five years. While everyone is in agreement that doing business with a company that sells machinery to states who sponsor terror, the Senator seems to have a double standard. Though he voices his concern that this company might sale helicopters and parts to Iran, the same Senator sees no problem in making trips to Venezuela and chumming with notorious dictator like Hugo Chavez who is one of the biggest sponsors of narco-terrorist like the FARC in Colombia. Even worse is the fact that Senator Dodd comes home and asks us to make nice with El Hefe Jr. If he is concerned about dealing with states like Iran shouldn't he be the same towards the enormous terror sponsor in our own back yard. I guess his constituents are more concerned about getting back at the failed Sikorsky deal than terrorists states. While I'm all for the "Made in America" sticker on things like our military aircraft, tanks, guns as well as Marine One (President's helicopter) I have to draw a line with the Senator. While the Senator is fighting against the Lockheed Martin/AgustaWestland helicopter deal wouldn't it have been better for the Senator to have promoted Sikorsky and urge them to make a better deal. They must have wanted too much.
